Chikkamagaluru, Feb 3: A newborn could live only for a day in this world because of the cruelty of unknown persons who apparently killed it by hitting it with a stone.
The lifeless body of the child was found abandoned near the old taluk office on Belur Road in the town on Saturday February 2. It is suspected that the female child was wrapped in cloth before crushing it with a stone.
So far, no further information could be collected, nor have details about the identity of the parents of the child, who killed it and why have emerged. Some passers-by who saw the mortal remains of the child, informed the police about it.
The police who conducted scrutiny, took over the body and initiated further steps like registration of the case and beginning investigation.
