Sullia, Feb 7: The wildlife division of forest department has barred entry of the general public into Pushpagiri Sanctuary in which Kumara Parvatha hill in Kukke village, Subrahmanya, is located. Kumara Parvatha is part of western ghats.

Trekkers flock Kumara Parvatha that is enveloped in lush green grass and vegetation on one side and glossy terrain on the other, for enjoying the nature. On an average, 25 to 30 teams of trekkers leave for Kumara Parvatha. Although trekkers keep visiting this place in all months except rainy season, the period between October and February is thought to be ideal.

The forest department has banned entry of people into this region as the forest and meadow in the forest have completely dried up and there is likelihood of them catching fire if the trekkers undertake certain activities. The situation also poses risk to trekkers. A warning board has been set up warning the trekkers to stay away from Kumara Parvatha. Violators will attract punishment under Wildlife Protection Act.

Kumara Parvatha is located on the border of Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu and Hassan districts. The peak of the hill is located 5,615 feet above the sea level. Trekking can be undertaken from all the three sides of three districts. A trek begins from the rear gate of Lord Subrahmanya temple, from where the distance to Kumara Parvatha peak is 12 km.
