Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (HB/EP)

Udupi, Feb 9: “The budget presented by our government today is conducive to all round development of all sectors and communities and to increase the speed of progress in the state,” said Udupi district in charge minister and minister of women and children’s development, Dr Jayamala.

“The budget by chief minister Kumaraswamy was bogus. No new projects are announced. Rs 15 crore for Malpe fisheries jetty and Rs 40 crore for development of lakes are welcome. Other than that, the budget is disappointing,” said K Raghupathi Bhat.

“It is a historic budget with concern for middle class, farmers and ordinary people. Ennehole project for irrigation in 1500 hectare in Karkala, Rs 7,500 per hectare for paddy growers, increase in wages to Asha and Anganwadi wokers, increase in payments to senior citizens, support for education and creation of jobs and several other useful schemes are in the budget,” said Yogish V Shetty, district president, Janata Dal secular, Udupi.

JDS state chief secretary Jayakumar Parkala said that it is a budget of all round development.

Janardhan Thonse, president of Udupi district Congress described the budget as pro people and pro-development. “Special impetus is given for agriculture and schemes that are related to agriculture and health. Proposal to encourage Tulu, Konkani and Kodava languages is a good development,” he said.

Bhasker Rao Kidyoor, spokesperson, Udupi district Congress said that the budget has concern towards agriculture, health, sports, education and rural development. “Implementation of parking rules, drinking water project, setting in motion second stage of metro project, release of grant for coastal development authority, have created conducive environment for the development of the state,” he said.

Kudi Srinivas Bhat, progressive farmer said that the chief minister had spoken about Sala Manna last time but it is not implemented properly. “The new budget has several new schemes and expectations. Increase in support price for milk is commendable. Providing market for agriculture is as important as agriculture,” he said.

Sriraj Gudi, political expert and lecturer in School of Communication said that increase in payment of pension is good. “But there is confusion in taking budgetary decisions and administrative decisions. It is done with an eye on next elections. There are several discrepancies in KPSC which have to be set right. Young people have no jobs in the state. Vacancies are not filled in several government offices. There is no scope for fresh recruitment in next six to eight years. The new budget has indirectly given room for unemployment,” he said.
