Bengaluru: Prolific Kannada writer Ko Channabasappa passes away at 96

Bengaluru, Feb 24: Veteran Kannada writer, scholar and thinker, Nadoja Ko Channabasappa (96), breathed his last on Saturday February 23. The writer with immense contributions to the field of Kannada literature had been an advocate and judge by profession.

Born in Alur, Kudligi taluk, Ballari district, Channabasappa was a freedom fighter who was identified as being one among great writer, Kuvempu's close associates. He had participated n 'Quit India' movement as part of the freedom struggle when he was as a student, and was arrested for the same. He studied law thereafter a Belagavi, besides completing post-graduation in history and political science.

After registering himself as an advocate at Bombay high court in 1946, he began his profession in Ballari district court. In 1965, he was appointed as sessions judge. After retirement, he began working as an advocate in the state high court.

Channabasappa, who cultivated writing as a hobby, used to contribute his articles regularly to leading publications. He had published over 80 books. Writers, poets, politicians and a large number of his fans have condoled his demise.

    He was a noble a soul.
    He conquered his life.
    His contribution to the literary society was enormous which will remain as a greatest wealth of knowledge for the future generation.
    His ideology and the way in which he lead his long life almost close to a century is a learning lesson to every one.
    There are more reasons to celebrate his life than to mourn his passing away.
    May his soul rest in Peace
