Puttur: Car dives into drain - one killed, five injured

Puttur, Feb 25: An old lady died and five others suffered injuries after an Innova car carrying pilgrims plunged into a roadside drain at Anila within the limits of Shiribagilu village. This village falls within the jurisdiction of Uppinangady police station. The accident happened on Sunday February 24.

Lingamma (75), resident of Halahalli in Mdnaya district, died in the accident. Manu (35), Hema (55), Meghana (27), Suma l(26), and Adarsh (38), who happen to be relatives of the deceased lady, suffered serious injuries. They stand admitted into a private hospital at Puttur.

All the people who were travelling in the ill-fated car were from Halahalli, Mandya. The pilgrims were travelling to Kukke Subrahmanya after visiting Dharmasthala, when the car went out of the driver's control while negotiating a minor bridge bend at Anila. The car hit the protective wall of the minor bridge before plunging into the drain.
