Udupi, Feb 26: Udupi district Rajiv Gandhi panchayat Raj unit organized 'Gandhiyana' padayathra (march) on Monday, February 25 to commemorate the day of Mahatma Gandhi's visit to Kadavina Bagilu, Udyavar near Bolje, Udyavar near here.

This programme was organized with the theme of spreading Gandhi's principles of 'Truth, non violence and harmony'.

Ishwar Khandre, working president, KPCC flagged off the rally at Kadavina bagilu, near Bolje in Udyavar, where Gandhiji started his march on February 25, 1934 and concluded at Gandhi park Ajjarkad in the city.

Addressing the gathering, Ishwar Khandre said, "Udupi is a historical place. Gandhiji dreamt of building Swarajya. There are 6 lac villages in India. The real development of a nation lies in the development of its villages. In order to realize his dream, Rajiv Gandhi formed an action plan and enforced it throughout India. He stood by his words and introduced the Panchayat Raj system.

"Rajiv Gandhi also brought reservation system. Congress has given reservation for women, but today they cast their vote for BJP. Let us vote for Rahul Gandhi. Our mission is to reach the Gandhian principles to each and everyone," added Ishwar Khandre.

Khandre further said, "Swachh Bharat campaign was promoted by Mahatma Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and now Rahul Gandhi. But BJP leaders say that it is their concept. They took away the ideas of Congress leaders. If the state government constructs toilets, the public say it was constructed by the central government. In reality, the central government sanctions Rs 4,000 and the state government has to bear Rs 11,000. Most of the people lack knowledge about the schemes."

"BJP is misleading people by false publicity. Today right wing organizations are celebrating Gandhi's assassination day. It was done by BJP. Police sent those who celebrated Gandhi's Martyr Day to jail only as an eye wash. They will get released soon after their arrest. Sangh parivara activists are insulting Mahatma Gandhi on one end and glorifying Gandhian principles on another end," said Khandre.

Continuing his speech, Kandre said, "The scheme Beti Padavo has remained only in papers. In 2014, Prime Minister Modi promised many things, but nothing is delivered. The entire economic system is broken down and the treasure of the nation is looted. The constitution of India and law and order are facing danger. There is need to understand the Gandhian principles in true sense. Let us work towards making Rahul Gandhi our next prime minister through voting in Lok Sabha election. Let the people of India work for maintaining unity and integrity of the nation."

Prof Prasad Rao M, lecturer of Government first grade College Thenkanidiyur delivered a special lecture on the topic 'Gandhi Thoughts'.

Prof Prasad said, "Gandhi taught women to resist against violence. Gandhi is in every house. We have the responsibility of developing Gandhian principles in them. Some anti-powers are insulting and misusing Gandhi's name, but we should stop such forces. Many researches are conducted on Gandhiji's life and principles. No one knows the clear structure of Gandhian policies. We should adapt Gandhian life style and Gandhi is in our hearts and minds."

Rangaswami, State Congress convener, RGPRS, Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, president, district Congress committee Udupi, Vinay Kumar Sorake, former MLA, Gopal Bhandary, secretary KPCC, G A Bava, secretary KPCC, P V Mohan, chief secretary KPCC, Venkatesh, Geetha Vagle, district president Women wing, Chandrika Shetty, district block Congress women wing, Veronica Cornelio and RGPRS blocks coordinators were present.
