Scribes gain unique ‘field’ experience at Udupi journalists' sports meet

Udupi, Feb 27: The annual sports meet of Udupi District Working Journalists' Association (UDWJA) was held at Mahatma Gandhi stadium, Ajjarkad on Tuesday, February 26.

Jayakar Shetty, general manager, Badagubettu Credit Cooperative society inaugurated the sports meet organised by UDWJA in association with Udupi Press Club.

Releasing the tri-colour balloons he said, “Journalists are always under a lot of pressure. I would like to congratulate all of them that in midst of their busy schedule they are organising and participating in the sports meet. Participation is more important than winning a prize. Sports meets build friendship, love and bring confidence.”



 

Yashpal Suvarna, president, Dakshina Kannada Fish Marketing Federation said, “Journalists are raising awareness about the problems in society through their elaborated reports on certain issue. It is admirable that all journalists’ organised sports meet together with sports spirit. Let the association organise many more such programmes. Let the rural talents get an opportunity to shine. Udupi has a beautiful stadium. Let the sportspersons make use of this ground in large numbers.”

Keeping aside all work pressure, journalists from Karkala, Kundapura, Kaup and Udupi took part in various events enthusiastically. The sports events like relay, 100 meters running race, shot put, tug of war game for men, long jump, speed walk, running race for women journalists and other games were held for the media persons.

Khadar Shah, in-charge of Public Information Department, Kiran Manjanabailu, member of State Journalists Committee, Nagaraj Varkady, convener, Press Club, Harish Palechar, sports secretary were present.

President of UDWJA Ganesh Prasad Pandelu extended warm welcome. Santhosh Saralebettu, general secretary, rendered the vote of thanks.

Diwakar Hiriyadka, treasurer of the journalists club compered the programme.
