Udupi, Mar 7: A person from Thirthahalli taluk in Shivamogga district, who was being treated for monkey fever since February 13 at Kasturba Medical College Hospital at Manipal breathed his last on Wednesday March 6. Raju (50) from Bandya village in Thirthhalli, had got admitted into the hospital with the symptoms of suspected monkey fever. Tests had confirmed that he was suffering from this disease. He was treated for the same but he breathed his last at 11 am on Wednesday.

In a release, the hospital said that 30 persons from different parts of Shivamogga district are being treated at the hospital currently for suspected monkey fever.

In the meantime, a monkey died due to drowning on Wednesday at Ninjoor within Palli primary health centre limits. Out of 207 monkeys which died in the district during this year, autopsy was conducted on 70. Viscera of 66 monkeys were subjected to KFD virus test and 14 tested positive. The other 51 did not display infection, the doctors said.

In the meantime, DMP oil continues to be distributed in coastal district, and this oil was distributed to people of Jantra and Kaduhole ST colony in Belman on Wednesday, the district nodal officer stated.

District health officer of Dakshina Kannada, Dr Ramakrishna, addressing a press conference here, said that monkey fever infection has not been found in Dakshina Kannada district. He revealed that tests conducted on the viscera samples of monkeys which were found dead at Hale Neranki and Beltnagady taluk recently confirmed that they were not suffering from monkey fever. Ramakrishna added that polio drops are being administered all over the district on March 10 and this year the pulse polio immunization programme will be held only once this time.
