Mangaluru, Mar 8: Fatima Sujana, a final year PU student of St Agnes College here lost a leg recently in an accident and suffered grave injuries to the other. However, she appeared for the final examination within five months of her debilitating accident.

Fatima, daughter of Abdul Samad from Mahakalipadpu here, who happens to be a social worker and badminton player, had slipped when crossing the railway tracks when going to the college on October 29 2018. Before she could get up, a train crushed her legs. She suffered grave injuries to both the legs will her waist.

Someone called her father after which Samad and his brother admitted Fatima into a hospital. She spent 40 days in the hospital including ten days in the intensive care unit. One of her legs had to be amputated, and she may require about six more months to be able to even put her other leg down, it is learnt.

Fatima was ably supported by her parents who kept lon instilling confidence and courage in her throughout the ordeal. Fatima, a commerce student, had dreamt of becoming a lecturer but she is unsure whether she can handle this profession with amputated leg. She is determined to continue with her studies for now, and decide about her future in course of time. The doctors have recommended prosthetic leg for her leg that has been amputated at the knee joint.

Samad, who already has arranged for procuring prosthetic leg for his daughter, said that his daughter was determined to appear for the examination. He said he and his wife, Ramlat, supported their daughter all through and they even held her and took her to beach. He admits that his daughter is intelligent and brave, which helped her to appear for the examination.
