Bangalore: It's All about Adapting, says Prasad

Bangalore, Feb 14: Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma, Munaf Patel, L Balaji, Harbhajan Singh... The Indian bowling attack, inarguably one of the best in the world at the moment, boasts of verve and variety.

Even as Team India undertakes an ambitious mission in New Zealand, a key man behind the transition is already busy chalking out strategies for the tour.

Venkatesh Prasad, the national bowling coach, just can't wait to rejoin his "intelligent" wards.

Speaking to TOI, the former India pacer said he was confident that the Indian bowling attack would deliver the goods in New Zealand though only Zaheer and Harbhajan have been there with the senior team before.

"Inexperience is not a concern for me. The strength of the bowling department now is that they are pretty positive. It is a highly intelligent group capable of adapting to any given situation. That is what the players at the highest level are expected to do irrespective of experience or lack of it," said Prasad, who was appointed for the crucial role after the team's World Cup debacle two years back.

Indian cricket has embraced a string of positives thereafter and the lanky coach is leaving no stone unturned in his preparations for the Kiwi trip.

"I have already gone through footage of the New Zealand batsmen and identified the right areas where we have to bowl. The process continued during the current Australia-New Zealand series. Also there has been a lot of discussion among players and also between me and the players. We do have four to five days to spend in New Zealand before the T20 matches and it gives an opportunity to acclimatize to the conditions there," said the 39-year-old.

Throwing light on the conditions in New Zealand, Prasad said they can be so diverse from place to place.

"It differs a lot in each venue. We have seen Wellington as the windiest of all places. But mostly, the tracks there would help the pacers," said Prasad, who toured New Zealand back in 1998 as a frontline bowler.
