San Diego, Jul 26: Marvel Studios has officially announced a new Ghost Rider film, with Ryan Gosling set to play the iconic supernatural anti-hero and Shawn Levy directing. The film is slated for a theatrical release in 2028.

The announcement was made by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige during the studio's Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con 2026.

Feige joked that fans had long been asking when Ghost Rider — and Gosling — would join the Marvel Cinematic Universe before inviting the actor on stage to a thunderous reception.

"Wow, is this really happening?" Gosling asked the cheering audience. "As you know, this is a character I've wanted to play for a very long time."

The actor then introduced Shawn Levy, saying there was "only one director" who could bring Ghost Rider to the big screen.

Levy and Gosling are currently collaborating on the upcoming film Star Wars: Starfighter, scheduled for release on May 28, 2027. Levy revealed that the two frequently discussed ideas for a Ghost Rider film during breaks on the Starfighter set.

"As Ryan started talking about his vision for this character, we started riffing," Levy said. "And I finally said, 'Bro, let's ride.' So guys, we'll see you in 2028."

Levy previously directed Marvel Studios' blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine. The new Ghost Rider film will mark the character's long-awaited debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
