Karkala: Sand den raided - seven arrested, assets worth Rs 79.75 lac seized

Karkala, Mar 9: A team of police personnel led by assistant superintendent of police, Krishnakanth, on Friday March 8, raided a sand den where sand was extracted from River Shambhavi and transported without any official permission.

The police arrested Sandeep Shetty, Manjunath Poojary, Wilfred Mascarenhas, Bheemappa, Mariyappa, Walter, and Laxman from the spot. One among the accused, Deepak Kotian from Inna, succeeded in giving the police a slip.

Five tippers, six boats, and a motor bike were seized. The value of the seized items has been put at Rs 79.75 lac.

Police circle inspector here, Halamurthy, and rural police sub-inspector, Nasir Hussain, participated in the raid.
