Mangaluru: Pradeep Kumar Acharya bags 2 gold medals in Australia

Mangaluru, Mar 19: Power lifter from the city, Pradeep Kumar Acharya, bagged two gold medals and second best lifter award at the Asia Pacific Equipped Powerlifting Championship 2019 that was held from March 12 to 17 at Gold Coast in Australia.

Pradeep Kumar Acharya was welcomed at the airport in the city by his parents, former MLC Ganesh Karnik and Big FM RJ Errol.

Pradeep Acharya took part in the 74 kg open category. He lifted 252.5 kg in Squat, 190 kg in Bench Press and dead 250 kg in Deadlift, with an overall weight of 652.5 kg.



Pradeep Acharya will take part in the world championship at Dubai which will be held in the month of November 2019.

Pradeep, a resident of Urwa Stores in the city, is practicing power lifting at Balanjaneya Gymnasium under the guidance of Sathish Kumar Kudroli.

Competitors from Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and Japan took part in this championship.

Pradeep Kumar Acharya had bagged gold medal at Commonwealth games held at South Africa in the year 2017. In the year 2018 – 19, he bagged gold medal in four different national level sports events. He also bagged silver medal at Asian Benchpress championship held at Dubai in the year 2018.

In total, Team India bagged nine gold, one silver and two bronze medals at the Asia Pacific Equipped Powerlifting championship 2019.
