Mangaluru, Apr 5: A man who arrived at Pavanje bridge by an auto rickshaw, immediately jumped into Nandini river from its bridge there. An elaborate search operation has been launched to find him out.

The man who made this suicide attempt has been identified as Harish Poojary (70) from Hosabettu near Suratkal. He is a native of Kadri Mallikatte in the city and was residing with his elder son, Rakesh, at a rented house at Hosabettu. Rakesh confirmed this information to the police.

Harish Poojary was suffering from certain ailments and had been treated for long at district Wenlock Hospital. As there was no improvement in his health condition, he had been discharged and begun to stay at home. Rakesh said his father was going through excruciating pain and on account of agony, often attacked him. In his complaint made to Suratkal police station, Rakesh said that he was away at his work place when his father hired an auto rickshaw from Hosabettu on Thursday evening, got down at Pavanje bridge, and jumped into the river.

A search launched by the police, firemen, and locals for about four hours on Thursday failed to locate Harish Poojary.
