Beltangady, Apr 5: A husband-wife duo lost its life at around 9 pm on Thursday April 4 at Kokrady within Venoor police station limits due to electrocution.

The couple who lost their lives in this unexpected incident was Sanjeeva Moolya (56) and his wife Sarojini (50). They have left behind a daughter who is a degree course student.

Sarojini had noticed sparks flying out of the electricity meter of their home. She tried to remove the fuse but suffered electric shocks. Sanjeeva, who heard cries of his wife, rushed to save her through the rear door. But he stepped on the earthing wire and was electrocuted on the spot.

The couple's daughter who was at the residence of a relative at the time escaped from danger. The couple was poor and worked as coolies to eke out a living, it is gathered.

Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd (Mescom) sources said that because of fault in the electric transformer through which power was supplied to the houses in this area, excessive power got transmitted to the house. Electric wiring system of several houses in the region suffered damages, it is gathered. Mescom and other senior officials visited the spot.
