Mangaluru, Apr 7: Hakuna Matata Club House launched professional tennis coaching camp for kids at Ramakrishna Tennis Club, Shivabagh on Sunday, April 7.

Sandeep Patil, commissioner of police, Mangaluru inaugurated the coaching camp. Arshad, Hanumantharaya, DCP, law and order, and Dr Farhad, vice chancellor, Yenepoya University and president of the club were present.

In his inaugural speech, Sandeep Patil said, “Most of the parents think that summer vacation is for preparation for another academic year. They are concerned more about their wards’ studies and learning skills. But summer vacation is meant to keep aside academic study and help them explore other interested fields. Vacation always should be fun filled and entertaining for children. Through various activities, sports and games children will feel relaxed and they will try to exhibit their talents. To help children, Hakuna Matata Club has organised this summer camp on Tennis.

“This is one of the state-of-the-art facilities for learning tennis. I hope that children and their parents will reap more benefit from this camp. Experienced coaches will help students to learn some techniques of tennis and train them to be professional players,” he said.

Farhad, addressing the gathering said, "Compared to other districts of Karnataka, Mangaluru is far behind in tennis. It means that there is no much demand for it in Mangaluru. Here our talents are facing shortage of proper trainers and playing pits. Understanding this, we planned to bring coaches from other parts of the state and give basic training for children. When they learn basic techniques, it is easy for them to continue the game. The renovated Ramakrishna Tennis Club ground is ready for players to continue their practice any time. Hence I request parents not to waste the summer vacation of their children. If they are interested in tennis, our club is open for them."

Anjana, coordinator of coaching camp, welcomed the dignitaries and gathering.

Children above three years and adults can join the coaching sessions. Mansingh Thappa, ITF Level 1 AITA 3 certified coach will be the main trainer of the camp. Since 2007, he is one of the head coaches at Mahesh Bhupathi Tennis Academy in Kerala. From the past 22 years, he is conducting training camps in various parts of the country and he has produced many state, national and international level tennis players.
