Kalaburagi, Apr 7: Former Kalaburagi Urban Development Authority chairman,Muhammed Asgar Chulbul, was attacked at around 2 am on Sunday April 7 on the allegation of campaigning in favour of BJP Lok Sabha candidate from here, Dr Umesh Jadhav.

In a complaint filed in Roja police station, Chulbul accused supporters of Gulbarga (north) MLA, Kaneez Fatima, of abducting and beating him up. He said that this incident happened with the tacit support of the MLA.

"Over a hundred people gatecrashed into my house at around 2 am. Some of them were holding lethal weapons and guns. They demolished furniture in the house and broke the wind shields of the car parked in front of my house. Therefore, a case should be registered against the MLA and her supporters and they should be arrested," Chulbul demanded in his complaint. He also said that the attackers were also the supporters of Congress Lok Sabha candidate, Mallikarjun Kharge.

Chulbul was close to former minister and Gulbarga (north) MLA, the late Qamarul Islam. Because of his closeness, Qamarul ensured that Muhammed Asgar Chulbul was made chairman of Kalaburagi Urban Development Authority for two terms. After Qamarul's death, Chulbul was desirous of fighting from that constituency but the party leadership chose Qamarul's wife, Kaneez Fatima, as its candidate. Thereafter, Chulbul had resigned as president of northern constituency block Congress committee.

At the Milli council meeting held recently, instead of Kharge, a decision to support BJP candidate, Dr Umesh Jadhav, was taken.
