Shivamogga, Apr 8: Former deputy chief minister, BJP leader and local MLA, K S Eshwarappa, has made a complaint to the district superintendent of police (SP) about a telephonic call of death threat he reportedly received. He has also sought police protection in the backdrop of this call.

The unanimous caller reportedly expressed anger at Eshwarappa's statement that BJP would not allot Lok Sabha tickets to Muslims. He had posed death threat in a language interspersed with Urdu words, Eshwarappa stated. Eshwarappa, in his letter to SP of the district, Dr M Ashwaini, seeking suitable legal steps against the caller, also claimed that he received calls from this person twice, who disconnected the call after raining abuses and posing threats.

The BJP leader said that he was returning to the city by train after taking part in electioneering at Bagalakote when he received this threat call. He sought protection, duly mentioning that he faced threat to his life from the caller. The SP promised to provide security to Eshwarappa and to take suitable legal measures against the person who made this threatening call.
