Mangaluru: Accidental fire from kerosene lamp accounts for life

Mangaluru, Apr 8: A man living in Vivek Nagar, Ballalbagh in the city lost his life due to accidental fire. This unfortunate incident happened on the night of Saturday April 6.

A kerosene lamp was left burning in the house of Raveendra (40), who happens to be the victim of the accident. At around 10.45 pm on Saturday, fire from the kerosene lamp somehow spread to the bed on which Raveendra was sleeping, after the lamp fell to the floor. Raveendra's entire bed and clothes caught fire instantly. As fire spread to the entire room, Raveendra could not come out of the room and save himself. He was charred to death.

Raveenda and his mother, Laxmi, were the only occupants of the said house. As Laxmi was ill, she opted to sleep outside the room, it is said. She noticed fire and raised an alarm. Locals rushed to her rescue and doused the fire, but it was too late and Raveendra had breathed his last by then.

It is gathered that Raveendra was working as clerk at the passport office at Kodialbail here. A case of unnatural death was registered at Barke police station relating to the said incident.
