Mangaluru: UPA government started merging process - Vijaya Bank retired officers

Mangaluru, Apr 9: Vijaya Bank retired officers on Tuesday, April 9 alleged that UPA government had started the merging process of the bank.

Addressing media here, Vijaya Bank retired officer Balappa Shetty said, "The process of bank merger was started by the UPA government. Today for the sake of votes they are delivering statements in favour of Vijaya Bank. The process of bank mergers started when UPA government was in power. Vijaya Bank was one of the banks among them listed.

“Veerappa Moily and Oscar Fernandes were ministers at the centre. They did not utter even a single word over the proposal of bank mergers. They had a chance to stop it. But after bank merging process began, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel is being blamed for this.

“The day Vijaya Bank was nationalised, it was snatched away from the coastal region. None of the leaders spoke against it. Now just they are delivering politically backed statements for their own benefit.

“During the road renaming issue, J R Lobo and Ivan D’Souza had pressurised the state government and brought a stay on it. These Congress leaders who did not utter a single word when Mulky Sundaram Shetty was insulted, do not have the moral right to speak about Vijaya Bank merger. alappa Shetty.

“Mithun Rai has said that if he comes to power, the merger will be withdrawn and Vijaya Bank will be restarted again. This impossible,” he added.

Vijaya Bank retired officers Jayanth Shetty, Somanath Shetty, Mohan Shetty and Ramakrishna Shetty were present.

Last week one of the ex-director Viviay bank said that Merger was the plan of a 'DICTATOR' to merge with Baroda Bank from Gujarat. Whey these people did not counter him last week ????????????.

Are these are all petty crooks ???. Where were they till today ?
Why they did not come up then when they knew that Osacar and Moily were part of it ( I doubt)
Today's meida attempt is to save some votes for N. Kateel .
This is game much dirtier than merger of Vijaya Bank it self.

I firmly believe that under each of his development initiative, there was hidden interests of super rich businessmen. Otherwise who will sell acres of land/ farmlands in negligible peanut amount. There was not even lookayukta in that state.
Further, Gujarat was already a developed state since old time. This provided him good opportunity to further his interests.

Boss! For your kind information, I work for a reputed industry in Udupi and I had an opportunity to visit Gujarat. Though we had plans of expanding the same business here in Udupi we could not because Gujarat could supply uninterrupted power supply but here in Udupi though we have UPCL there are frequent power cuts. And what came as a shock for me was that, there wer no generators in the factory which could produce up to 12000 metric tons of yarn per year! Please accept this!

It is may be true congress initiated the merger. What Modi did was the called the merger as BOB instead of Vijay Bank.
    For all the blind bhakts:
    1. Why bullet train to Gujarath?
    2. Why statue in Gujarath? (though it is terrible idea)
    3. Why change to bank of baroda?
    4. Why only support Gujju business men like Adani and Ambani?
    .....

This shows his double standards towards other states. Yet BJP slaves want people to vote for Modi who has done nothing for other states.
What investments or new projects have been done in DK by our MP? Even he coundn't complete the pumpwell flyover in last 10 years?

Congress is fooling minorities for votes and BJP is fooling Hindus for votes.

I hope the retired bank officers know what they are clarifying about? If Bank of Baroda and Dena Bank had issues of high NPA's, not profitable etc a profitable bank like Vijaya Bank should have taken over these banks/merged. However Vijaya banks name should have been retained. However in this case a profitable bank which has run business well following policy and procedures, reporting profits has been penalized and have now become history

This is far from the truth. The merger idea was first conceived in 2017 and not during the UPA time. These people before spreading falsehood should study facts. Vijaya bank had floated a proposal with the government for wanting to merge with Dena Bank and Bank of Baroda had floated a proposal for wanting a merger with Vijaya Bank. The government studied both the proposals and came up with the idea of merging all three banks and this happened in 2017. UPA had no hand whatsoever in this merger. It was the idea conceived and implemented by the current Modi government. Please do not spread falsehood.

Modi govt can cancel all the good schemes of UPA govt when they came to power which are approved in parliament ,and this bank merger they not able cancel ,wa bhai wa what a reason.

They are right it seems. Both ruling UPA then and Opposition BJp never protested against the merger proceedings of Vijaya Bank.
But the point to be noted is that merger that is taking place now under BJp is with both the banks- Gujarat based Bank of Baroda and Maharashtra based Dena Bank; are in huge losses; whereas Vijaya Bank is delivering Profits.

As per your press conference UPA proposed for merging , when Present. Prime minister can scrap most of the proposal of UPA (Rafale) he could have scraped this also , why he has not done
please don t blame for previous government when there was a opportunity for this government to do so

There are lots of Financial & legal implications that needs to be done and studied. But nobody said a word then. The proposal even came in prominent news papers. Trust it clarifies.
