Bantwal: Mescom to supply power to pump sets three days a week

Daijiworld Media Network - Bantwal (SP)

Bantwal, Apr 11: A release by Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (Mescom) said that it has received instruction from the deputy commissioner of the district to supply electricity only three days in a week for pump sets belonging to farmers operating on the banks of river Netravati.

Mewcom stated that it has been taking steps to implement this order.

This step has been taken in view of the fact that even after water stored in Shambhoor dam is released, it does not reach Thumbe dam as pump sets working on the river bank are run all 24 hours of the day.

Water level at Thumbe dam from where drinking water is supplied to the city has been receding with each passing day. The city corporation has therefore been finding it difficult to maintain drinking water supply to its citizens. Therefore, the district administration said, it has been decided to severe power supply to pump sets operating on river banks for four days every week.
