Bengaluru, Apr 26: BJP has succeeded in finalizing the names of candidates for both the assembly constituencies which will be facing bypoll shortly. Out of the two, Kundagol seat fell vacant with the sudden demise of former minister, C S Shivalli. Chincholi seat was vacated by Umesh Jadhav, who resigned and entered the fray as BJP candidate from Kalaburagi constituency.

BJP core committee has decided to recommend the candidature of Ramachandra Jadhav, brother o Dr Umesh Jadhav, for Chincholi constituency. It has also finalized the name of S I Chikkanagowder for Kundagol seat.

During the core committee meeting on Thursday, names of former minister, Sunil Valyapure, Namadev Rathod and Sanjay Yakapure, came up for consideration from Chincholi constituency as they have shown interest. However, as the BJP had earlier promised that the person named by Umesh Jadhav would be issued the party ticket, the party decided to field his brother, Ramachandra Jadhav.

Chikkanagowder was defeated by C S Shivalli of the Congress in the last assembly election by just 634 votes.

At the same time, Congress has not been able to arrive at a consensus on finalizing names of candidates for the above two assembly constituencies. It is said that the party proposes to issue to ticket to deceased minister, C S Shivalli's wife, but this proposal has encountered stiff resistance from local leaders. In Chincholi, it has been left to the discretion of Mallikarjun Kharge to name the candidate.

The BJP also appointed persons in-charge for these two elections. Former chief minister, Jagadish Shettar, former deputy chief minister, K S Eshwarappa, and deputy leader of the opposition in the assembly, Govind Karjol, as well and MP, Prahlad Joshi, have been given the responsibility of election in Kundagol constituency while former rminsiter, V Somanna, Laxman Savadi, Baburao Chinchnasur, MLCs, N Ravikumar and former MLA, Malikayya Guttedar, have been given the responsibility of overseeing the bypoll.
