Bengaluru: Jarkiholi rebellion - others remain unconcerned, Parameshwar worried

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Apr 27: The warning of rebellion by legislators issued by former minister, Ramesh Jarkiholi, and his claim that several of the MLAs supporting him would be resigning from the assembly and the Congress en masse, does not seem to have worried senior party leaders. However, deputy chief minister, Dr G Parameshwar, is concerned .

Surprisingly, leader of the Congress legislature party, Siddaramaiah, who is deemed since long as the godfather of Jarkiholi family and hence command lot of respect from them, has not been perturbed by the turmoil taking place within that family since the last some months. But Parameshwar has set the ball rolling to win over the confidence of Ramesh Jarkiholi.

There is information that Jarkiholi's anger basically is against the intervention in Belagavi politics by minister, D K Shivakumar. Therefore, Parameshwar visited Shivakumar's residence on Friday and held discussions on various aspects of the issue for about an hour. This has given rise to speculations in various circles and many have analysed that his meeting the minister at his residence indicates the urgent need he has been facing to save the government from crumbling.

Although there has been talk about Ramesh Jarkiholi initiating the downfall of the state government since sometime, former chief minsiter, Siddaramaiah, who usually took interest in such things in the past, has remained aloof. He is taking rest, and did not take part in a meeting called for choosing candidates for the bypolls.

Siddaramaiah's discreet silence is also being thought to reflect his disinterestedness to save the government if its fall becomes imminent after the Lok Sabha result comes out. There is information that Siddaramaiah also expressed the view to the high command that it would be better for the party to stay in the opposition than ruling the state in an environment of uncertainty and confusion.
