Kasargod, Apr 29: Officials of excise squad seized Rs 45 lac worth of unaccounted currency notes not supported by any documents, from a bus on Sunday April 28.

In this connection, Nuhammad Zaheer (33) from Nellikunje in the town was arrested. The raid was made based on secret information about ganja smuggling by the bus. The officials however found unaccounted cash during their raid.

A bus operated by Kohinoor company moving from Bengaluru to the town was intercepted by the personnel of Adoor police station near Karnataka border by the excise squad. They found a bag containing cash. Zaheer and the cash they found were handed over by the excise squad to Adoor police.

The squad found 3,126 currency notes of Rs 500 face value and 1,498 notes of Rs 2,000 value in the bag. It is said that the money was being taken to Mangaluru from Bengaluru via Kasargod.

Zaheer works as an employee of a footwear shop at Ernakulam. He says that this cash was handed over to him by Habib Rahman from Avenue Road Bangaluru for being handed over to Habib from Mangaluru. He said he was paid handsomely for transporting this cash.
