Sullia: Subrahmanya temple committee plans golden chariot with donors help

Sullia, Apr 30: The managing committee of Subrahmanya temple at Kukke here has decided to take up building of a golden chariot by obtaining approval of the state government. President of the committee, Nityananda Mundody, said at a press meet he addressed on Monday April 29, that the estimated cost of the chariot would be Rs 77 crore and the cost of the chariot would be pooled from the donations from devotees and donors for the purpose. He said that the chariot would be completed in about six months time.

Mundody explained that those interested to be a part of the project can make donations by way of gold or cash.

When he was the chief minister in 2006, H D Kumaraswamy had given approval for the golden chariot project at Subrhamanya. Recently he came to know that the chariot project was not executed and discussed the issue with the temple managing committee at a meeting held at Bengaluru recently, it is said. He expressed the desire that the project he had approved should be completed during his term.

Mundody stated that the managing committee which met, held discussions with expert sculptor from Koteshwar, Laxminarayana Acharya, and prepared the revised estimate. He said that the previous estimate has been revised to match the current market rates. He said that the proposal to be sent to the government will recommend use of 240 kilograms of gold for the chariot.

Temple executive officer, Raveendra M H, and members of the committee, Mahesh Kumar K S Karikkala, Balakrishna Gowda Balleri, Rajeevi R, Madhava D and Damayanthi Koojugodu K S were present.

    Frankly I dont appriciate this at this time age.why it should be absolutely a golden chariot?Everywhere thieves are wating for gold and valueables.It costs also in crores.Instead why dont you all in name of temple to invest in a fund and children or poor people can benefit from this?Thtas my suggestion.Gold ,silver was were in previous days.It can be too made out of other materials or?and a golden brush over might look just like golden chariot.
