Kundapur, May 3: The ongoing summer camp for children held at Balabhavan, Shastri park here by the department of women’s and children welfare, Balabhavan society, Samudaya Kundapur and JCI Kundapur has several specialties attached to it.

Instead of wasting time, children are made to sharpen their knowledge, growing the attitude of asking questions, multiplying the curiosity concerning science and informing some of the things to them. Different resource persons and subject scholars encourage children’s talent.

The number of camp participants increased. There are 114 camp participants including 16 children of migrant workers and 40 students from government school. Students ranging from second standard to PUC have taken part.

Children were taught clay art and preparation of clay pots by Raghu Kulal, Alooru. Poems created by children are being printed by Samudaya Kundapur to inspire children. Mallesh Kambar encouraged artistic creations. Ashok Thekkatte, Udaya Shetty Padukere and others are guiding creative activities. Dramatist Vasudev Gangera prepares children for dramatics. Drama by Parvati Aithal and Uday Gaunkar will be staged on the last day of the camp. Children’s fair was held on Labor Day. Travel to Seetanadi forest will be held on May 4. The camp will conclude on May 6.

The display of clay art was attractive. Raghu Kulal said that ornaments are also created out of mud and explained how to create a market for the products. Creation of pots with motor that runs on solar power is his specialty.

There are efforts in the camp to drive away superstitions from the minds of the children. He said that magic is only a part of tricks. He showed how camphor can be made to light on tongue or hand, how water changes colour to red when soap is immersed in turmeric water and from red back to turmeric color when mixed with lime juice.
