Udupi, May 5: Bharatiya Sahaya Seva Samsthe submitted an appeal against highway contractors and department engineers urging the district SP and deputy commissioner to take action against them alleging that the contractors are playing with the lives of people and responsible for deaths of several people in road accidents.

“Seven people have already lost lives in vehicle accidents due to negligent road works. The series of accidents have continued on daily basis. The contractors are responsible for it as they neither give indications for slow motion nor ask to follow an alternative route. Workers employed by the contractors do not wear a special jacket while working by the sides of the road, causing accidents.

Those who call it a national highway have created a large curve at MIT junction and caused confusion for vehicle drivers. It is to be seen if the contractors take precautions at least after this to prevent accidents while performing highway work or wake up only after loss of lives,” they said in their memorandum.

Bharatiya Sahaya Seva Samsthe president Prashanth Jathanna, vice president Ramesh Kanchan, secretary Asadulla, Santhosh G, Sunil D Bangera, Pramila Jathanna and others were present.
