Udupi, May 9: Citizens came forward offering free manual labor under the leadership of MLA K Raghupathi Bhat here, to clear obstacles on the flow of water. The district is facing scarcity of water. Though there is water in Baje dam, it cannot be used in the absence of sufficient facilities to make it flow. Therefore, people have come forward on directions from the MLA for ‘shramadana’.

Speaking to media, the MLA blamed officials for water woes in Baje dam. “The officials have not acted upon complaints received in this connection. Municipal council members and we are supplying drinking water to all wards through water tankers to tide over the situation and prevent hardship to people,” he said.

There are obstacles on the way of the flow of water to Baje dam. We are trying to clear them by collective ‘shramadana’, he said.

Municipal council members, activists and citizens took part in large numbers in the exercise.
