Udupi DC takes necessary measures to supply drinking water

Udupi, May 9: “As water in Baje dam which supplies drinking water to Udupi municipal council is completely exhausted, water that is collected in large pits between Baje dam and Shiroor dam is made to flow to jack well by dredging and supplied. As the quantity of water is not as much as was being supplied once in three days, the city is divided into six parts and water is being supplied to at the rate of one division per day.

Thirty five people are assigned the responsibility as nodal staff of thirty five wards. People can submit complaints regarding water to their respective nodal staff. Nodal staff in turn will receive telephone calls and supply water if essential through water tankers.

As water will be supplied in the form of ration, it will be supplied at the rate of one thousand litres per house. People should mandatorily enter the details of tanker that supplied water to them in the tanker trip sheet and sign on it. A proposal is prepared and action is taken to revive bore wells, open wells and Mannapalla lake after removing silt that has collected in them.

Similarly directions are given to call tender to remove silt in Baje drinking water dam. Instructions are given to prepare an estimate of the cost of removing silt after survey of large storm water drains in the council limits and call for their tender. Directions are given for immediate repairs of Baje dam gates.

The DC has asked to take up urgent works from Rs 25 lac released by the government to tide over scarcity of water and the remainder amount from last year. Houses which are getting water supplied through tankers will be supplied water after three days from the day water was supplied from council distribution network. As the scarcity of water has become acute, people should avoid misuse of water and cooperate with the council,” said the deputy commissioner.
