Oman, Apr 9: Karnataka Sangha Salalah, Sultanate of Oman, organized a day out, the fourth in a row, for its members, on Friday April 3 at SADAH National Park.
The day-long event filled with fun and games was well attended by over 250 members and their families. Karnataka Sangha has been organizing this most awaited event every year to enable its existing as well as newly-joined members to meet in a common place and get to know each other personally and have some memorable moments to cherish.
Reginold Rosario, the convener of the wing welcomed the members and chief guest M P Mandanna, Ex-president of Indian Social Club, Salalah, soon after the mouth-watering breakfast, filled with crispy vadas, spongy idlis and aromatic sheera, served hot by the local popular joint, Annapoorna Restaurant.
Pochheri Ramdas Kamath Moodbidri, briefed the members about the various events, games and conducted the proceedings with the help of its management committee and their families.
There were interesting games for children of defferent age groups conducted by Diana Carvalo, Dr Suhel Hassan, Dr Subramanya Upadhyaya and Dr Anita Upadhyaya, Vijaya Poojari Moodbidri, G A Pradeep with the help of other members.
Radhika Ramdas Kamath and Shirin Rosario conducted the couple game of Step-n-jump-race, in which, husbands were seen struggling to step on the thick paper placards, placed one after the other by thier wives. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all the couples. Inna Krishnamoorthy and Shridhara Bangera conducted the reverse race for bachelors.
Delicious lunch was served hot after the prayer break for Muslim brothers. Pure vegetarian lunch was supplied and served by another popular joint, Udupi Delux Restaurant under the supervision of H S Subrahmanya and Ammunje Jagadish Nayak. Juices, snacks, ice-cream, biscuits were sponsored by G A Pradeep of Tiffany Foods.
There were plenty of surprise spot prizes for children, ladies, gents and couples.The biggest tummy, mobile set with Kannada song ringtone, tallest couple, shortest couple and man with highest amount of pharmacy bill in his pocket, were some of the spot prizes,enjoyed by the members.
Tug-of-war was the main attraction and the day-long event was concluded with tambola, which was immensely enjoyed by all the age groups.
Ramesh Poojari, Ravindra Someshwar, Ganapathy Shettigar,Deepak, Madhav Shetty, Shridhara Bangera, Dinesh Kulkarni, Sowmya Mandanna,Narasimha Rao,Laxman Narsapur, Mobin and Mujeeb Mulky,Shyam Sunder Kulkarni, assisted and supported the organaizers in smooth functioning of the event..

Fri, Apr 10 2009Happy to know that Salalah Karnataka sangha is doing great job of uniting all kannadigas in the region.I was a member of Salalah Karnataka Sangha back in early 1990's.In fact we started it that time and used to conduct outings,gatherings at various places like Holiday Inn Hotel and also conducted singing compititions for children at Indian Club etc.
We used to meet at Mr.Bhaskar's(Omantel) residence at gate No-5(We used to call this area)often to plan our future ventures and meetings.Some of you may know our old members like Mr.Soans,Mr.Bhaskar,Mr.Valarian Crasta,Dr.Dinakar Rao,Mr and Mrs. Padukone and many more.In case any of you know me please send an e-mail on spcastelino@yahoo.com All the best and keep up the good work.
