Kundapur, May 11: After two buses of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) collided head on with each other on national highway 75 near Sakleshpur in Hassan district on Friday May 10, the driver of one of these buses lost his life.

The accident happened at around 3 am on Friday near the JSS school at Bage village in Sakleshpur taluk between a bus that was bound for Subrahmanya from Bengaluru, and the other bus that was going to Bengaluru from here. Prabhakar Nayak (40), a native of Honnavar, who was driving the 'Ambari' Volvo sleeper bus that was bound for Bengaluru, lost his life. Prabakar Nayak was attached to KSRTC Kundapur unit.

Rajesh from Byndoor, who was the conductor of this bus, also suffered injuries. The condition of Nikhita Agarwal and Venkatesh from Bengaluru, who suffered critical injuries in the accident, are being treated in a private hospital at Bengaluru. Over 16 other passengers suffered injuries of differing degrees. They were admitted into a private hospital at Hassan.

Heavy fog is said to have affected visibility and caused this accident.

Prabhakar Nayak was serving in the local unit of KSRTC since the last ten years. Most of the time he was serving on Bengaluru route. His mortal remains were brought to the KSRTC office here where senior officials and colleagues paid their last respects, before the same was dispatched to Honnavar.
