Mangaluru, May 28: Water level in River Netravati near Thumbe vented dam area has plummetted. Preparations have been made to undertake dredging operation at the dam.

Delhi-based Selco company has been given contract for the work. A group led by Asif from here would be undertaking this work. The dredging machine was lowered into the water on Monday May 27. Floating Pontoons were stationed in the water for being used for the dredging operation. Dredging pump has been installed to remove sand, mud and waste products that have got deposited under water.

The demo of dredging operation would be filmed and provided to the deputy commissioner of the district and officials of the department of mines. Once they view the operation and give permission, work will begin on full scale. Mining department officials had scrutinized the area a week back. This contract was allotted on the basis of e-tender process.

This dredging machine can lift 100 cubic metres of silt per hour from the bottom of the dam. The technicians involved with this operation are backed by the rich experience of having worked in various ports including Odisha and Kohi.
