Bengaluru, May 29: Karnataka Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ) has expressed the opinion that registering of complaint by the police against Vishweshwar Bhat, editor of Kannada daily, 'Vishwavani' is not the right step. It also termed the action as condemnable.

President of the union, Shivananda Tagaduru, in a letter addressed to chief minister, H D Kumaraswamy, said that the right step for the concerned would be to call for clarification or seeking explanation if the news published in the said newspaper is deemed as purposeful and false. He said that registration of case in the guise of false news is tantamount to hatred and enmity.

"The union recollects past instances in which you had responded and shown your friendliness towards the journalists when some cases against journalists were brought to your notice in the past. It is also likely that the registration of complaint against 'Vishwavani' might not have come to your notice. We request you to get information, scrutinize the same and bring an end to this case," he requested in the letter.

The union reminded the chief minister that in democracy, steps backed by a sense of vengeance and enmity are not good. "Being the chief minister, we hope that you will go ahead consciously and with patience towards maintaining cordial relationship between the media and the government. If you are willing to clear the environment that has been vitiated, we are prepared to hold a dialogue," he said in the letter.
