Udupi, May 30: Deputy Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati who expressed anxiety over increasing incidents of infant mortality has asked the department of health to submit a detailed report explaining the causes.

Speaking in a meeting held in DC’s office on Wednesday, May 29, she said that seven women have died of labour pain in the district from December till now. “Therefore, the department should make sure that all the medical facilities are provided during deliveries,” she said.

She asked Asha activists to visit houses once a month to prevent incidents of Dengue in the district. “Children in the schools should be taught by the health department to identify mosquito larva and implement preventive measures in their houses.”

“The district is second in Malaria cases in the state. Grant to prevent epidemic by conducting survey of larva in 60 sub centres from June to October is released. Anti-Malaria month is being observed in June. Rallies or awareness programmes will be held during the month,” she said.

“306 cases of H1N1 are identified so far. Nine people affected by it have died. 14 cases of monkey fever are identified in the current season. Programmes should be held under Swachh Bharat scheme in the monsoons. Those who are constructing buildings, roads and other works where mosquitoes are likely to breed should obtain NOC from the health department,” she said.

She expressed dissatisfaction over delay in distributing identity cards and equipment to endosulfan victims and asked the concerned to complete the process within next two days.

Taluk panchayat executive Raju, women’s and children’s development department deputy director Gracy Gonsalves, and health department officials were present.
