Bengaluru: Power tariff hike demand - KERC to issue order today

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, May 30: The electricity supply companies had approached Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) a few months back with a request to permit hike in the power rates. They had cited hike in operating cost and other reasons to justify their demand.

Because of the intervening Lok Sabha election, KERC had not come out with its decision although it held public meetings to get public feedback. In all likelihood, the commission will announce its orders on Thursday May 30.

It is expected that tariff hike at the rate of 30 to 35 paise per unit may be permitted this time, as per indications. There are chances of fixing a separate price schedule specifically for Bengaluru city. The rates will be effective from April 1 this year.

During the last year, KERC had permitted hike of 20 to 60 paise per unit for different power consumers.
