Udupi, Jun 11: Souharda Samithi, Catholic sabha Udupi Unitm Moter of Sorrows Church Udupi and Lions Club Udupi Sangama, jointly celebrated festival of Eid-ul-Fitr on Monda, June 10 at Mother of Sorrows Church, Udupi.

Addressing the gathering, vice-president of Mohammaddiya Educational Trust Hoode, Idris Hoode said, “None of the religions ever supported cruelty or terrorism. Islam is also against the act of terrorism. When a person is fasting, he should do it in silence. There should not be any sign indicating that he is fasting. The same happens in terms of donating also. Donating something should be a secret thing.”

Fr Chethan Lobo, PRO, diocese of Udupi, speaking on the occasion said, “Never criticise other religions. You have rights to criticise and comment on the religion which you are following but not on others’ religions. Donating and fasting are the values which every religion must follow. All the religions strictly follow fasting. Hindu faithful fast for more days than other religions do. To donate you need not to be follower of any religion. Donating by any sort is a universal thing. Fasting and donating are co-related. What you save from fasting, you donate it to others,” he said.

Students of MET Public School sang the Ramzan song and entertained the audience.

Another chief guest of the function Jayakar Shetty Indrali said, “To maintain peace and prosperity of this humanity every religion has contributed the most.

Christianity upholds peace, Islam upholds equality and Hinduism spirituality. In this way, every religion is contributing its part for humanity.”

Fr Valerian Mendonca, parish priest Mother of Sorrows church Udupi presided over the function. “We all are brothers and sisters. We share the same blood. We are all children of God,” he said.
