Mangaluru, Jun 21: The dissolution of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has miffed current office bearers of the Congress in Dakshina Kannada (DK) district while those who were waiting to hog the limelight are happy at the opportunity to get important positions in the party. The removal of current office bearers was sudden and unexpected.

T M Shahid, Mamata Gatti, M S Muhammed, Kallige Taranath Shetty, Naveen D'Souza, Mohan P, Bharat Mundody and Purushotham Chitrapur were hitherto functioning as KPCC secretaries. With the dismantling of KPCC they have lost their organizational positions.

KPCC is expected to be formed again within a month with the selection of new set of office bearers. It is said that the party wants to elevate party activists to different positions based on their performance during the elections, and also by taking into account their contributions towards strengthening the party's organizational set up. Sources claim that the leaders already have in their possession reports about the way these leaders worked during the elections. It is said that those who have been eyeing positions in KPCC have begun to exert pressure through top leaders known to them.

In the second phase, block and district Congress committees are likely to be revamped. Those whose performance was not up to the mark would be dropped and those who moved around the people and kept close contact with locals will be preferred, it is said.

In Udupi district, M A Gafoor was the general secretary while Murali Shetty, Belapu Deviprasad Shetty, Veronica Carnelio, and Rajshekhar Kotian were secretaries. Navinchandra Shetty from Kaup was coordinator. In addition, ten block committees were represented in KPCC in the form of one member each.
