Dubai: Indian rupee now acceptable in UAE duty free shops

Dubai, Jul 3: Indian tourists visiting Dubai, from now on, can make payment in Indian Rupees (INR) in duty free shops here. 

Earlier the tourists carrying INR had to convert the currency to US Dollars, Euro or AED before proceeding to purchase from the duty free. 

As per Mathrubhumi Online, the rupee will be accepted at three terminals of Dubai International Airport and at Al Maktoum Airport. With the latest move, the Indian rupee has become the 17th currency to be accepted for transaction at Dubai duty free. 

Around 28 lac Indians are working in the UAE apart from thousands of relatives of the Indians visiting the country every year.

    The ultimate plan is to empty your pockets and send you home once you cross dubai immigration. The people might spend all the money from the their pocket and then might call the neighbor to pay the taxi bill when they reach mangalore. I doubt the taxi driver of Mangalore might get affected as the people who arrive may not have enough money to pay for taxi.

    At abudhabi duty free Indian Rupees are accepting before 1990 s .In Dubai duty free just now started .This is not because BJP or congress. This is to atract more Indian people

    As per international travel protocol, a personal laptop, your blazer/suit jacket , your passport pouch, and your pram if carrying a baby are not included in carry on luggage weight....but for Indians it is part and parcel of your personal luggage.

    It is a good idea but I don't know how far it will work. This will benefit the UAE duty free shops as Indian visitors will carry loads of Indian currency to shop in such outlets.

    Indians are allowed to carry only 25,000 rupees cash, when going out of the country. That is the reason, govt allowed only 25,000 for changing the old notes during the demonetization for NRIs and Indian visitors returning from visit abroad.

    I stopped praising modiji as election is far and everything well running on track once again first time after independance. Now only work and achievement speaks loudly. When it entered dubai no doubt day is not too far as like before people who undertook hajj piligrimmage also undertook indian rupees.

    The Indian Government states that you are not allowed to carry Indian currency outside India. So unless Modi changes this rule, it is useless.

    Did anybody forced you to carry indian rupees. During 1947 one indian rupee equal to one dollar. Now go on count who ruled afterwards. Now cribbing of no use. Adjust to it.
