Bengaluru, Jul 6: Speaker of the Legislative assembly, Ramesh Kumar confirmed that 11 MLAs submitted their resignation letter to him. As Sunday is a holiday and he is on leave on Monday, the next course of action will be taken on Tuesday, July 9.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, July 6 on the issue of resignation of MLAs of coalition government, Ramesh said, "My secretary has informed me that 11 MLAs have tendered their resignation in my office. Office will be closed on Sunday. I will not attend office due to personal reasons on Monday. So I will check the resignations on Tuesday.

"I had completed my personal work and was in Vidhana Soudha in a meeting. But none of the MLAs called me or sought appointment from me through letter. If the MLAs wish to meet me in their mind, how will I come to know? If they had called me beforehand, I would have made myself available at Vidhana Soudha," said speaker Ramesh Kumar.

Ramesh Kumar further said, "Eleven MLAs have resigned. I have asked my personal secretary to give all of them the acknowledgement of the same and also tell them that the next course of action will be taken on Tuesday since I am not in the office. The MLAs are not sent back just because I am not in the office. I will take all necessary steps as per law.

"Let the MLAs go to Raj Bhavan or Rashtra Bhavan. That is none of my concern. You ask me about speaker Ramesh Kumar, I will answer your questions. My duty is limited to the extent that is mentioned in the Constitution. I do not have any knowledge of other things. I am not in any party. So I do not know about the resignation of MLAs," said Ramesh Kumar.

Giving further update, Ramesh Kumar said, "If the MLAs hand over resignation letter in the office, it cannot be received. The MLAs have to hand over their resignation in person to me. We give the acknowledgement letter that we have received the resignation letter. The MLAs have not sought an appointment. If they ask for appointment, I will not deny. I do not know who are going to come today."

Former president of JD (S) H Vishwanath, Ramesh Jarkiholi, Somshekhar, Pratap Gowda Patil, Gopalaiah, B C Patil, Mahesh Kumatalli, Narayana Gowda, Bhairati Basavaraj, Shivaram Hebbar and Ramalinga Reddy have already handed over their resignation in the office of the speaker.
