Kundapur, Jul 27: Don Bosco School (CBSE) Trasi – Kundapura successfully hosted District Level CBSE & ICSE Schools Chess Tournament on behalf of Association of ICSE & CBSE Schools (AICS). As many as 40 teams from 21 Schools took part in a meticulously organized tournament that is being held for the first time in Kudapura Taluka. Madhava Kripa School from Manipal emerged Winners in the Under 17 Category, while Little Rock Indian School notched the top place in the Under 14 category.
The tournament was inaugurated by Derick Pinto, managing director of Derik’s Chess School. In his address he urged the students to take chess seriously as it is the King of mental games and human mind is stronger than other creature on the earth. Prasanna Rao, the Administrator of Derik’s Chess School was the guest of honour and also the chief arbiter of the tournament.
The tournament was brought to a fitting finale with the valedictory ceremony. Myrtle Lewis, retired principal of St Mary’s Central School, Udupi gave away the trophies to the winners and the runners up. Fr Leo Periera, rector of the institution, in his presidential remarks challenged the students to use the skills of chess for excelling in studies and for nation building and protection of environment.
Fr Maxim D’Souza, principal of the School, Fr Merwin Fernandes, vice principal, Kiran Lobo and Charlotte Lobo, PTA representatives were present on the dais. Kashvi Chess School, Kundapura provided organizational support. The staff and students of Don Bosco School, Trasi set a high standard in the organizing of the tournament.
