Mumbai, Aug 1: A BEST (Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport) bus caught fire near Maheshwari Udyan in the city's Matunga on Wednesday evening. All the passengers were evacuated on time and there were no causalities reported in the incident.

As reported in TOI, the bus was ferrying commuters from Mulund to Worli, when the bus driver saw smoke coming from the engine, and quickly alerted the conductor and passengers. Due to the driver's presence of mind, all the passengers in the bus were safely evacuated on time and a major catastrophe was averted.

Fire tenders and police rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control with the help of locals and shopkeepers. As per fire officials, the fire apparently broke out in the electricity metre box.
