Beltangady, Jun 17: In a macabre incident that happened at Marodi village in the taluk on Tuesday June 16, a mentally deranged girl killed her beloved mother by crushing her head, after attacking her elder brother and sister-in-law.
Prameela (28), youngest and pet daughter of her mother Rukku Poojarti (72), wife of the late Lokaiah Poojary from Kardadka in Marodi village is accused of killing her mother by banging her head against the courtyard floor, when she was not in her senses.
Prameela seemed to have been suffering from mental disorder since Monday evening, when she became hysterical and started fighting with everyone in the family. She is said to have asked all others to leave the home, as they had failed to arrange for her marriage. When Jayanti, wife of her elder brother Dharnappa Poojary was washing clothes on Tuesday morning, she approached her with a sickle in hand and tried to attack her. When Jayanti and her husband succeeded in snatching the sickle from her hand after struggling for some time, she hit Jayanti with wooden pieces, injuring her seriously. Dharnappa, who tried to save his wife, too was injured. Both of them rushed to Naravi hospital to get treated. The girl then chased away her old-aged mother as if she had been possessed by some spirit, and killed Rukku by pouncing on her and banging her head to the ground. Because of the force of the banging, a depression was caused in the court yard and blood was splattered around.
It is learnt, several members of the family have been suffering from one or the other psychological disorders now and then and that they always were wary of the problems several demi-gods in which they believed in, would create for them. They also built a small shrine for the demi-gods to escape from their fury but the problems continued. As Prameela behaved normally in every day life, no one had an inkling that such a catastrophe would befall on the family on Tuesday. Prameela also earned some money by rolling bidis.
Prameela has since been admitted to Kankanady Hospital. Circle inspector Gangi Reddy and Venur sub-inspector of police Manju rushed to the spot after learning about the incident. It is learnt, Prameela continued to behave like a possessed soul after murdering her mother and admitted to her crime when the policemen came. She claimed, she was possessed by Rakteshwari daiva and that she would answer to questions if the daiva permits her for the same and only if her brother leaves her home.
