Udupi: Two Drown in River Suvarna near Hoode

Udupi, Jun 18: Two youth who went to swim in river Suvarna at Perlakadi, Hoode near here drowned on Wednesday June 17 evening. The two were part of an eight-member group of youngsters, all of whom wanted to swim in the river.

Six boys from among the group had a providential escape from the disaster, when workers engaged in making ropes from coconut fibre nearby, rushed to the spot on seeing the boys in deep trouble and saved them. Two of the boys went missing in the meantime and a search operation has been launched to find them out. It is presumed, they have drowned. 

One of the youngsters who died has been identified as Shoib (20), a final year B Com student of Kallianpur Milagres College, son of Amma Saheb, a fish merchant from Hoode. It is said, the other youth who lost his life was Shakil from Mumbai, who was on a visit to Shoib's house.

A case has been registered in Malpe police station in this regard.
