Iran Airliner Crashes, All 150 on Board Feared Dead

AFP

Tehran, Jul 15: An Iranian airliner crashed in the northwest of the country on Wednesday, and all 150 people on board are believed to be dead, English-language Press TV reported.

The plane crashed near the city of Qazvin, northwest of the capital Tehran, it said.

The official IRNA news agency said the plane had taken off from Tehran and was en route to the Armenian capital of Yerevan.

"All people on board are believed to be dead," Press TV quoting an unnamed police chief from Qazvin as saying.

Iran has suffered a number of aviation disasters over the past decade. Dozens of people were killed in September 2006 when an airliner came off the runway after landing in the eastern city of Mashhad and burst into flames.

In November 2006, an Iranian military plane crashed on takeoff at Tehran's Mehrabad airport, killing all 39 people on board, including 30 members of the elite Revolutionary Guards force.

The reason for air-crashes are numerous. Most of the times the reasons for air-crashes are due to the poor maintenance or improper services or companies are much bothered about revenue than passenger safety etc.

These are just other than human errors. I think the most cases that I heard in Air-India or indian airlines are tyre busting at landing. Other than that i think indian airlines are safe.

Its really sad for the people on board of this particular flight, in fact there are so many disasters occurring so rampantly.......We just have to wait for that day when God promises us that he will wipe out tears from our eyes and death and mourning will be no more (Rev. 21:4)

Hi Santosh, before writing any comments please use your some common logic. Do you hear any air disaster of Air India other than Kanishka which is blown away in the mid air by Khalistani terrorists. It is well known that the Indian pilots are the best in the world. Its also well known that all the Air India Express fleet are new (nearly 3 years old which is considered as new). In other countries there are fleets which are 20 years old. We indians have a tendancy that we never like any indian products or services. Let us beleive in our country and in our people. JAI HO.

The former USSR made aircraft had more crashes than Boeing or Airbus aircrafts. Iran has several of the Russian aircrafts in the fleet.

How safe are the Indian airlines ? Is adequate care being taken already or things will improve only after a major disaster ? I really wonder if there is proper and routine maintenance for the Indian carriers ? Also if genuine spares are used, if outdated and redundant planes are still being used, pilots are overworked ? Do concerned authorities really care about all these issues ?

I think now a days Aircraft disaster are Happening just like road accidents, and its not a joke. when you travel in a vehicle at least you will have a chance to survive but as far as aircrfat has concen there in only one end that is DEATH. How ever it can be restricted, for that Aircraft autorities should give more attention on properly time base check as well as more attention towards maintenance. Hope in future we wont here such incidents.

With US sanctions, Iran has to make do with used spare parts or fake parts for their aircraft. Think before you fly an Iranian airline and don''t get carried away with heavy discounts. Save lives.
