Lucknow, Sep 10: BSP chief Mayawati on Thursday expelled her nephew Akash Anand from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), saying he was more concerned about personal relationships than his political career, the party’s interests and the movement.
In a post on X, Mayawati said Akash Anand had not reposted a post from her social media account, describing it as an indication of his priorities. She said the BSP had taken both Akash Anand and former Rajya Sabha member Ashok Siddharth from the grassroots to positions of prominence, but accused them of failing to remain committed to the party’s interests.
Mayawati questioned how Akash Anand could work effectively for the BSP and its movement if he gave greater importance to relationships and relatives than to the party’s interests and his own political career.
She said Akash Anand had earlier been relieved of all important responsibilities as the BSP’s National Coordinator on September 3, 2026, and announced that he would now be completely freed from the party.
Mayawati urged BSP members to remain fully committed to the party’s struggle to return to power in Uttar Pradesh with a full majority and establish good governance and development under the party’s principle of ‘Sarvajan Hitay, Sarvajan Sukhay’.
Earlier on Thursday, Ashok Siddharth announced his retirement from political and social life after Mayawati linked his political exit to any possible future reinstatement of responsibilities to Akash Anand.
In an emotional post on X, Siddharth said he was retiring from political and social life with immediate effect. He added that if he ever had to sacrifice his life for Mayawati, he would consider it a matter of pride.
Siddharth said all relationships were insignificant before Mayawati’s order and expressed gratitude to her for having elevated him from a small party worker and made him a member of her family.
He also denied ever working against the interests of the BSP. Responding to Mayawati’s allegation that he had attempted to influence Akash Anand, Siddharth said he had not even met him for several months, let alone advised him.
