Hillary Clinton backs Trump impeachment for 'betraying' US

Washington, Sep 25 (IANS): Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Wednesday said she supports impeachment of the US President Donald Trump, saying he has "betrayed" the country.

"The president of the United States has betrayed our country. That's not a political statement- it's a harsh reality, and we must act.

"He is a clear and present danger to the things that keep us strong and free. I support impeachment," she tweeted.

On Tuesday, the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee told People Magazine that she supports impeaching Trump in light of her former presidential campaign rival's actions involving Ukraine.

"I'm in favor of moving toward impeachment. I did not come to that decision easily or quickly, but this is an emergency as I see it," she said in the interview.

"This latest behaviour around Ukraine, trying to enlist the President of Ukraine in a plot to undermine former Vice President Biden or lose the military aid he needs to defend against Trump's friend, Vladimir Putin -- if that's not an impeachable offense, I don't know what is," Clinton told People.

She called Trump "a reckless, corrupt human tornado" and "a clear and present danger to the future of the United States" and accused him of "betraying our country on a daily basis" and "undermining the more perfect union" of the United States.
