Dharwad, Jul 27: In a surprise move, food and civil supplies minister H Halappa raided a storehouse near here and detected about 3,000 quintals of illegally stored rice on Sunday July 26. He was accompanied by the officials of the department during the raid.

The godown reportedly belongs to a person named Ashok Taluvalli. The rice bags bore the seals of Food Corporation of India and the rice was found to have been collected through the levy system. The receipt of the rice was not recorded in the records. The value of the illegal rice stock detected is around six lac rupees.

A police complaint was registered in this connection, and the minister has asked the officials to continue with the investigation. At the time of the raid, neither the owner nor the ones keeping the records in the storehouse were present. As only the coolies were present, ownership of the illegal rice stock could not be established
