Mangalore: Kannada, Tulu, English Litterateur Shekhar Idya Passes Away


Mangalore, Jul 28 (DHNS): Kannada, Tulu, English litterateur and researcher Shekhar Idya (72) passed away on Monday. Born in Idya in 1933, he completed his primary education at Vidyadayini School, Surathkal. Later, he joined Railways in Mumbai. After obtaining MA degree in English from Mumbai University, he served as lecturer at Dayananda College between 1964-67.

He also served Moodabidri Mahaveera College. From 1970 till his retirement, he served as English lecturer and HoD at Govinda Dasa College. Some of his works include ‘Mangalooru,’ ‘Benagal Ramarayaru,’ ‘Panje Mangesharayaru,’ ‘Nethravathi.’

 He had received felicitation from Kannada Sahithya Parishath, Tulu Sahithya Academy.
He is survived by his wife, son and daughter.

    I was his student for a brief while at Govindas College suratkal. He had indepth knowledge of Tulu Culture .I remember him once say that the present Universal style of wearing Saree has originated from Tulunadu. May his soul rest in peace.
