Udupi, Sep 5: In a tragic incident, an 18-month old male child named Satwik, son of Suresh from Kinnigoli, who had been on a visit to the home of a relative, drowned in a pond located by the side of the house, on Friday September 4.

The child's parents, Suresh and Sumana, who are from Kinnigoli, had come to the house of Guddemane Vinaya Devadiga, a close relative living in Tenka Yermal village near Padubidri on August 30, as guests. The child went missing at about 12 pm on Friday. The body of the child was found in the pond at about 1 pm. It is suspected that the child followed two elder children, who had earlier gone to the pond to swim. No one had noticed that the child had gone near the pond. After the concerned launched a frantic search for the missing child, the body of Satwik was recovered from the pond.

A case has been registered in Padubidri police station.
