Chikmagalur: Puja at Baba Budangiri Hill Tantamount to SC Stay Violation, Says Vedike

Chikmagalur, Sep 10: Karnataka Komu Sauharda Vedike has said that the vedic rituals conducted under the leadership of the district in-charge minister K S Eshwarappa near the disputed site of Baba Budangiri Darga on Tuesday September 8, was a clear violation of the stay order issued to maintain status quo at the disputed site, by the Supreme Court.

Reportedly, district convener of Bajrang Dal and priest Khandya Pravin conducted vedic rituals by drawing 'Mandal', Rangoli etc., and chanting Sanskrit hymns, to initiate the repair works for the collapsed portion of the cave, in which the Darga is located. Through a statement, secretary of the Vedike, K L Ashok, said that by violating the stay order of the court,  the district in-charge minister Eshwarappa, MP D V Sadanand Gowda, MLA C T Ravi, district deputy commissioner R Narayana Swamy, district superintendent of police M N Nagaraj etc., have shown their total lack of respect for the judiciary.

Ashok said that the deputy commissioner R Narayana Swamy has tried to give an evasive reply, by terming the puja held at Baba Budangiri as 'Bhoomi puja', which smacks of some kind of conspiracy. The performance of the puja just a day earlier to the commencement of the special legislative session, has given rise to doubts that the concerned want to spread communal tensions in the state, he added.

Ashok said that besides holding state-wide protests against the puja held under the auspices of the government, a legal battle will be initiated against the concerned.
